Joyful, Joyful - We Adore Thee

I love this song! I'll be completely transparent with all of you right now - my mind immediately goes to the movie "Sister Act 2", when the choir performs their spicy rendition for a singing competition. I know every word of their version, even the "rap" parts (and YES, I can do it on command. I'm available for parties.)

It's one of my top ten favorite movie scenes, right up there with the Blues Brothers performing with Cab Calloway, and pretty much the entire movie of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Want to know why?

Because it's so freaking JOYFUL. They could be singing the phone book, and I'd still love it - when I watch it, I feel uplifted and like I could dance around the room (again, YES, I do dance around the room). I have added the video for those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about:
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee. God of glory, Lord of love. The words are beautiful, and so uplifting. A year ago we had a sermon talking about joy, and how it's different from being "happy". In the english language we interchange them, but they truly are different. Confusing!

Happiness is the byproduct of good things happening - the feeling we get because of our circumstances. Joy is the choice to live in the goodness of God, and starts from the inside - it works its way out to paint how we feel about our circumstances.

So let's choose joy, right? Let's choose to see and live the heart of Jesus in our everyday, and allow that to permiate our circumstances. Let us be joyful in the knowledge that we have a Savior who loves us and hasn't left us, even in the midst of turmoil and uncertainty.

Choose joy! (And if need be, watch this clip a few dozen times!)
